The 3D editor

A scene of simple bodies and exact parts: draw, build, join, measure, cut with a plane and assemble mechanisms.

Scene and view

Key 3 or the Create button adds a scene. The view is set on the right toolbar: projection, grid, ground colour (a light grid by default, like Fusion 360) and the “Do not go below ground” option. The grid step follows the zoom: near a tiny part the cell gets smaller.

Creating bodies

Primitives
cube, sphere, cylinder, cone, capsule, torus, plate, propeller.
Revolved and extruded shapes
from a contour drawn in a sketch on a plane; a sketch can be built from a drawing too.
People for scale
man, woman, child in the Create menu, sized in metres.
AI model
a text description becomes editable parts (see AI helpers).

Modifying

Push/Pull
pick a face and give a distance: the body extends or is cut in.
Follow Me (sweep)
a profile — circle, rectangle or contour — is swept along a chosen line.
Fillet, chamfer, shell, arrays
the Modify menu for exact parts.
Point to point
pick a point on one body and a point on another — the first snaps to the second.
Align, size, scale
quick buttons on the panel beside the body.

Measuring

The ruler shows the distance and tells how it lies: “along the red/green/blue axis”, “at the midpoint”, “parallel to the edge”. Dimensions can be pinned to the scene.

Keeping a scene tidy

Components
a component copy repeats a shape: editing one copy changes all; “Make unique” detaches a copy.
Groups and tags
tag, for example, all furniture: hide it with one click or colour it by tag.
Scenes (views)
save a camera angle and return to it from the view menu.
Section plane
an axis cut with a filled section; saved as a view.

Physics and mechanisms

Bodies can be dynamic or static, joined with joints and mechanisms and simulated. Material (metalness, roughness, opacity, texture) and aerodynamics are on the Physics tab. By default a body looks like grey satin with soft reflections; set any colour you like.
