Body physics (2D)
The Physics tab makes a shape or group a physical body: it falls, collides, rolls and pulls joints along.
How to add
Select a shape, open the Physics tab on the right and enable Physics body. Then press Run.
Properties
- Body type
- Dynamic moves under forces. Static does not move (floor, wall). Kinematic follows its set velocity and pushes others but is not pushed.
- Mass, kg
- Affects inertia and whether the body sinks in liquid.
- Friction
- From 0 (ice) to 1 and above (rubber). Works for sliding and rolling.
- Bounce
- 0 means no rebound, 1 means an almost elastic bounce.
- Damping
- Resistance to motion (air). The larger it is, the faster the body loses speed.
- Initial velocity
- vx and vy in metres per second and initial spin.
- No-collision group
- Bodies sharing the same non-zero number do not collide with each other. Handy for parts of one mechanism.
- Draw trajectory trail
- Leaves the line the body travelled.
Tips
- A group behaves as one body: build a car from shapes, group it and enable physics on the group.
- If a body "flies away" or "falls through", check the frame scale: pixels per metre affects every speed.
